My lovely assistant has an "in" at Macys, so we headed over to Herald Square to pick up an Artisan 5-Quart Stand Mixer.
Has anyone actually been in the basement of Macys before? They call it The Cellar, rather ominously, and it's the only part of the store time seems to have forgotten. The escalators are crazy old and creaky, the ceilings are low and it's packed floor-to-ceiling with fantastic tableware and kitchen electrics. I was in heaven.
Pistachio was a random color choice for me; I've had Ina Garten's all-white, bric-a-brac, vintage-looking kitchen in my head forever. White, I thought. After all, my end goal is to have unmatching—but all-white—kitchen plates. Eventually.
Or maybe Wes Anderson yellow? But nah, looking at the selection in-store decided it. Cutesy, retro Pistachio it is.
When we got it out of the cab and the boy lugged it upstairs, I had a childhood Christmas flashback. PRESENT!!
It has its own spot right across from the oven, within reaching distance of the butcher's block counter. And I get up every morning and walk over to stroke it. Because it is mine, and it is adorable and I am an adult now.
And it already made me chocolate chip cookies.
